Rex has played guitar since the age of seven, when he weighed only a bit more than a '58 Les Paul. He learned his craft amongst the rich musical diversity of the Texas Hill Country in his hometown of Marble Falls, then moving to his favorite second hometown of Austin, Texas.

Who is this retro rocker?
You guessed it - it's Rex back in the 80's... probably jamming to some now-classic Glass Harp.

Living in Austin, Rex was indelibly affected by great Texas guitar players, from Eric Johnson to Stevie Ray Vaughn to Billy Gibbons to Ray Benson, and a host of other notables. He gigged and recorded in Austin as a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist songster from 1983 to 1989.

In 1989, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee and worked as an artist, writer and musician for Sony Music, and since then has produced or played on over 3000 recordings he both played on and produced for Sony Music Publishing and other publishing companies. Over his career he has made recordings with

  • Randy Bachmann of Bachman Turner Overdrive
  • Jack Blades of Night Ranger and Damn Yankees
  • Jon Bon Jovi
  • Merle Haggard
  • Brooks and Dunn
  • Olivia Newton John
  • Jim Brickman
  • Tim McGraw

and a who's-who of hall-of-fame writers and performers. Rex has also played in the US, Sweden, Norway, Italy and the Netherlands with various artists as a sideman musician and singer. Through years of working his way up through the business and earning the respect of Nashville musicians and artists, Rex Paul the solo artist was being groomed.

Despite having produced, recorded and played with some of modern music's greatest artists, Rex's love of real guitar rock has led him to create a giant in the land of guitar records, Hero Shuffle. With guest guitar legends Eric Johnson, Phil Keaggy and Dann Huff, his lifelong dream has come true.
